Background of GUK Eye Hospital
Gram Unnayan Karma (GUK) is a non-political, non-profit, non-governmental social welfare development organization which was established in 1993 under the leadership of its founder executive director Dr. Khandaker Alamgir Hossain. Since inception, GUK has been performing various developmental and healthcare related activities in different districts of Bangladesh with the aim to socio-economic development, poverty alleviation and employment creation. Health risk and eye diseases have been identified to be a major problem among the poor and ultra-poor members and beneficiaries of the organization. Many of them are suffering from cataract and other eye related diseases due to aging process. Most of them are going to face blindness due to unawareness and unavailability of treatment facility. Acknowledging the severity of the situation and to implement the “Vision – 2020” of Bangladesh government, Dr. Khandaker Alamgir Hossain established GUK Eye Hospital in 2015 to provide affordable eye care services to the general people of Bangladesh.
